the blind side #6 (reading log)

The blind side is a such a moving story about a young man named Michael. Michael is a homeless boy who is adopted into a caucasian family who help him overcome the learning disabilities he faces and achieve excellence in American football.

The main message incorporated into this film is inclusiveness, the importance of family and the benefits of hard work. I believe film director, John Lee Hancock has incorporated this message into the film to bring the idea across of everyone has a chance if they really put their mind to it. For example, throughout the film, Michael starts from the bottom where he is homeless and doesn’t have any family to support him. However a loving family brings him into their home, feeds him, buys him new clothes, even a car. They help with with his school work and help him to improve his American football skills.

The biggest part of the film had impacted me was when Michael finally gets in contact with his mother. However when he goes to visit her, she doesn’t want to see him and avoids talking with him. This impacted me as Michael had lived a hard life growing up being homeless and not having any family around before the loving family took him in. Knowing that Michael could have seen his mum but her shutting him out, must have left a huge whole is his heart knowing that his mm didn’t want to see him after so long.

The theme generosity is central to the film as not only do the Tuohy family take him in, but they buy him a car, new clothes, food and show him the most love and kindness someone could ever want who has been through that sort of pain and hurt.

In todays world, so many people are homeless and hurting. It is such an eye-opener to what reality is for now-days. 1.6 billion people lack adequate housing. This novel changed my perspective oh how I judge people because you never know what someone has been through until you hear their story.

I would highly recommend this film to everyone to read as it makes people realise that we are so well off to have the things we have compared to other people. It taught me to be grateful and thankful for the many things I have as not everyone has the things I do. It is such an eye-opener and changes your perspective on judging people at first sight.
